week commencing 5th July 2010 Street Rugby
Forget the World Cup and Wimbledon – Street Rugby is coming to Caia Park! The Crusaders Rugby League Team has been working with the Community Safety Partnership to arrange a 12 week course of Street Rugby for young people aged between 11 and 18 years. It all starts on Tuesday 6th July and continues every Tuesdays from 6.30pm until 7.30pm on the field next to the Multi Use Games Area off Prince Charles Road (next to Caia Park Partnership). It’s free to take part and the whole event will end with a great Festival at the Racecourse. If you miss the first week, don’t worry – just come along the following week. For more information contact Caia Park Communities First on 01978 314094 or just go along to see what’s happening and get involved!

There will be stalls and exhibitions, mini sports, 5-a-side football, donkey rides, musical entertainment from local bands and singers, a Bouncy Castle, Toddler play area, face painting and vehicles from the Fire & Rescue Service and North Wales Police. It promises to be a great afternoon out for all the family! Make a date to be there and join in the fun. A car boot sale is also being arranged for the same time as the Carnival - it will be held on the small car park outside Queensway Sports Centre from 1.00pm until 4pm and pitches will cost £5 each. To book your pitch, please telephone 01978 364920 - pitches are strictly limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis so book your place now!
Caia’s Got Talent 2010
After last year’s fantastic event, Caia’s Got Talent is back searching for more talent! This year’s final will be held on Friday 15th October 2010 at the RAFA Club on Ruthin Road – a bigger venue as we had to disappoint some people last year as the show was a sell out before the evening started. If you are interested in taking part, all you need is a talent – singing, dancing, telling jokes, juggling, playing a musical instrument or anything else people would want to watch (we’ve all seen Britain’s got Talent so you know the kind of thing that we mean!). For an application form, please contact Caia Park Communities First on 01978 314094 or call in our office at 17/18 Gwenfro, Caia Park. Closing date for application is Friday 27th August 2010

Hillbilly Hootenanny!
Ever wondered about the roots of country Music? Turning back time before the Nashville Sound? Hillbilly Hootenanny gives you a glimpse at a company of back porch pickers performing music that has shaped their lives and the lives of many since the 1940’s. the music of the Cater Family, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and other artists who have performed in the time between then and now, will fill the hall with an atmosphere of “dyed-in-the-cloth” Country Music.

Heading up this troupe of seasoned performers is Welsh-born Ian Cal Ford. Following in the footsteps of his father Cal Ford, who was affectionately known to many as “The Welsh Johnny Cash”, Ian carries on the family tradition by honouring Country Music with a sincere appreciation of its history. His long-time musical companions The Railmen provide superb instrumental backing. Together they recreate the authentic sound that made Sum Records famous.

Dave Duke performs country Swing that will set your toes a-tapping. A consummate musician who has performed in countless successful bands of various genres, will perform a style of music that he has a passion for and it shows.

Canadian singer/songwriter Chuck Micallef brings the Country Folk element to the show. Chuck performs and writes in an intimate story telling style that lends itself to the delivery of lyrical imagery.

All the performers have appeared in numerous venues both sides of the Atlantic include the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, The Riverboat Coffee House and American International.

Now they are performing in Caia Park, on stage at Kingsley Circle Community Centre on Friday 30th July 2010. The show starts at 6.00pm and tickets, which cost £4 or £3.50 for concessions, can be obtained by telephoning 01978 365355 or 01978 262968. A licensed bar and refreshments will be available on the night. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun!

This show is sponsored by the Art Council of Wales Big Night Out scheme and Wrexham County Borough Council.
